The first issue of Newton’s posthumously published chronology, according to the preface the last work he revised before his death in 1727. ESTC records two reissues with cancel title-pages and two other editions of the same year. Responses were soon published by Nicolas Fréret and the clergyman Arthur Bedford, which harshly criticised the supposed heresy of Newton’s alterations to orthodox biblical chronology, which he associated with anti-Trinitarian theology.
