A rare work. The photographs include four views of Mecca and three of Medina, as well as views of Jeddah and the Mahmal. The author was an Egyptian public health official who was commissioned by his government to undertake the Hajj in 1888 and 1891. This book describes the eight-month journey in great detail. In his opening remarks he claims that his aim is to rectify the misconceptions engendered by European works on the subject.
First edition. 8vo., 129, pp., 19 photographic plates after Sadiq Bey and others, original printed wrappers, bound into modern boards, old stamp to upper wrapper, small tape stain to lower wrapper, a very good example.
