Fine group of original watercolours signed by Turpin, one of the greatest botanical painters of his day.
This celebrated French artist (1775-1840) studied drawing at the art school in his home town of Vire. He became a popular artist and illustrator, influenced by Redouté and Spaendonck, and his work is to be found in works of Chaumeton, Humbolt, Bonpland and Knuth to name a few.
Three of the four present studies are titled “Aconitum napellus”, “Datura stramonium” and “Ranunculus acris”.


Four original watercolours on vellum, pen, ink and body colour, signed, titles in gold. Framed and glazed.
