Roddy Newlands

Modern Firsts & Children's Books

The son of maritime books specialist George Newlands (McLaren Books), Roddy’s background in the rare books sector saw him working for many years at London auction house Bloomsbury Auctions, from cataloguer to Head of Department and consultant. He played a key role in the set-up of their New York and Rome offices, and was responsible for the development of Bloomsbury Auctions’ Modern First Editions department which became one of the most prolific and significant facets of their book auctions.

A time away from this ancient trade saw Roddy develop interest and skills in digital marketing, web & graphic design, which led to working for various booksellers and book trade associations in the UK, and it is the combination of this experience and these skill-sets that he brings to Shapero Rare Books, working alongside Angus Robb to build upon the success of our modern literature and children’s books departments.
