£1,950

An exceptional copy of an important illustrated edition of Aesop's Fables, the text taken from the 1724 edition of L'Estrange's translation. The splendid plates and vignettes admirably reinforce Stephen Gooden's place as one of the leading British line-engravers of the twentieth century.

Haven O'More conceived & formed an extensive collection of remarkable rare books, funded by private investor Michael Davis, known as The Garden Ltd Collection. Following some legal wranglings between the pair, the collection was put into auction via Sotheby's in 1989, where it sold for $16.2 million.
