'the most valuable on account of Alken's superb illustrations' (Schwerdt).

A series of picaresque comic tales, originally published as individual stories in Surtees' New Sporting Magazine between 1831 and 1834 and collected in book form in 1838. The plates are replete with detail and brilliantly coloured, as can be seen clearly in this well-preserved copy.
