Robert Wemyss Symonds (1889-1958), trained as an architect and consequetnly was, for a while, in partnership with Robert Lutyens, son of Sir Edwin Lutyens, before becoming the pre-eminent 20th century scholar and authority on English Furniture. Symonds was also a collector and designer of furniture, as well as an extensive writer on the subject, extending this to clocks and a biography of Thomas Tompion.

First edition, limited to 750 copies; 4to; very small corner crease to lower corner of first three leaves, otherwise fine; publisher's blue cloth, fading to spine and two edges, mildly bumped at extremities, otherwise very good.
