Folio (57.5 x 44.2 cm), chromolithographic additional title, hand-coloured tinted lithographic frontispiece and 30 hand-coloured plates by Lemoine, Lehnert, Mouilleron, Le Roux and others after Prisse d'Avennes, printed by Lemercier, all mounted on card and loose as issued, titled in pencil below image. Letterpress title, dedication, plate list and 60 pp. of descriptive text by St. John with 35 wood-engraved illustrations, original plain wrappers. Original morocco-backed portfolio with gilt-lettered morocco cover label, rebacked, flaps with morocco renewed, new ties, minor wear to card edges and corners, old waterstain to end leaves, portfolio covers rubbed and a little worn, plates clean and fresh, a very good copy.

First edition, 3 atlases bound in 2 vols; folio; 203 plates plates comprising: [Album Historique, Ethnologique et Archéologique] large folding map mounted on linen, 59 lithographed plates (3 of which are folding) most coloured, part-coloured or tinted bound with [Album Zoologie:] 40 hand-coloured engraved plates of mammals, birds, reptiles and fish, and insects, separately bound [Atlas Botanique:] 103 engraved plates, some light foxing throughout; half green morocco over green cloth boards, gilt title blind stamped to covers, spine gilt ruled with title and tooling, a fine copy.

First edition. 2 volumes, 4to, folding engraved map and 66 engraved plates (2 hand-coloured, 6 double-page), illustrations in text, uncut in original grey boards, original paper labels, neat extensive restoration to spines, a very good set.

Sheet size (double-page): c.725 x 520 mm (or the reverse). Watermarks examined include the shield with sword and fleur-de-lys (Robison 61), a fleur-de-lys with initials (Robison 20 / 21), a fleur-de-lys within a single circle (Robison 18 / 19) however the majority of those present appear to be the fleur-de-lys within a double circle (Robison 33 / 35).
Full contemporary polished calf, rebacked, boards with triple-ruled borders and floral corner pieces in gilt, banded spines with gilt tooling and black leather label with gilt title in nine compartments, turn-ins tooled in gilt, marbled endpapers and edges. Repairs to edges and corners. An excellent example.

Large folio (51.8 x 38.7cm.), 3 volumes in one, half-title, engraved frontispiece, titles printed in red and black with engraved vignette, engraved frontispiece to dedication, engraved portrait of the author by Vermeulen after Le Blon, double-page engraved map, engraved illustrations, woodcut initials, 146 engraved plates (46+50+50), one double-page.

[WITH] BARBAULT, Jean. Vues des Plus Beaux Restes des Antiquités Romaines telles quelles subsistent encore à Rome et en Divers Endroits de l'Italie... I (-II) cahier. Rome: Boucher & Gravier, 1770, 2 parts in one, titles printed in red and black, 30 engraved plates (15+15), without parts 3-5.

Together 5 parts in one volume, contemporary catspaw calf, gilt fillet border, spine gilt in compartments.

First edition, folio (35.5 x 23 cm. approx.), xv, [i], 442, [ii], 60, [viii], [ii], xvi, 112 pp., title-page printed in red and black with engraved vignette, 11 engraved maps and plans (incl. 6 folding, 2 double-page), 1 prospect, 20 engraved plates on 17 leaves (3 leaves have plates on rectos and versos), one folding table and one page of engraved music, other illustrations in text; contemporary calf gilt mottled in red and black, spine gilt with golden fleece motif, title with two small holes in vignette, rebacked retaining original spine, a very good example.

4to (30 x 23 cm). Half-title, title, pp. [3], xxx, 159, 60 hand-coloured plates engraved by A. Delvaux and protected by tissue guards; foxing to text, only light and marginal to plates. Later red half straight-grained morocco gilt.
