First edition, first printing, inscribed by the author to title-page; numerous plates and illustrations within the text, slight age-toning, otherwise near-fine; publisher's quarter purple clot over paper-covered boards, amusingly illustrated dust-jacket, rubbed and creased edges, more so to rear panel, otherwise good.

First Edition. 4 volumes, 8vo, 4 engraved titles, 52 aquatint plates (all but 2 hand-coloured), including the 28 for the Schoolmaster's Tour and others by Rowlandson, some trimmed close to actual image, overall internally very good, marbled endpapers; late nineteenth century crimson straight-grain morocco, double- fillet roll borders to covers, spines gilt compartments with gilt rules and gilt-titled red morocco onlays, gilt edges; light wear to joints, presented in modern cloth drop-back box. An excellent set.
