(35.5 x 29 cm.); engraved titles, 174 engraved plates including portrait of George Washington, bookplate ( vol I only), subscriber's list, marbled endpapers, scattered spotting throughout mostly marginal, some minor offsetting; skilfully restored preserving the contemporary diced russia, gilt borders, spine gilt ruled and lettered, all edges gilt; [3]-280; 4--238; [239]-444; [1]-252; 253-437pp. Overall an attractive copy.

First US edition, first issue (with errata to verso of title in vol II); 2 vols, 8vo, (20.2 x 13.5 cm); illustrated throughout, hinges slightly loose on vol I but holding, occasional marginal annotations in vol I, slight spotting to prelims, slight marginal discolouration of leaves to both vols, pale yellow endpapers; publisher's russet cloth stamped in black with frames and cornerpieces, gilt lettering to spine, black ink stain to upper cover of vol II, spines bumped, corners slightly rubbed, overall a very good set; [vi], 409, [2]ads; [vii], 436, [12]ads pp.

First edition, second issue (without the errata to verso of title-page of vol. II, and errors in vol. I corrected); 2 vols, 8vo (19.5 x 13.5 cm); ownership inscriptions to front free endpaper recto of both vols, numerous illustrations, light spotting to prelims otherwise text bright and clean; publisher's green cloth, rules in blind to boards, gilt spine, minor rubbing to extremities, hinges repaired, a very good set.
