  1. 4to (285 x 230 mm); engraved vignette title with portrait of John Gay, Table of the Songs, Dramatis Personne 1777, Introduction, the playscript, and music score with libretto, toned, a few random spots or marks, otherwise very good; later full polished calf, scuffed, marked and bumped but very sound.

First edition; 8vo (180 x 112 mm); red box-rules throughout, woodcut initials, head and tailpieces, toning, closed tear in L1; contemporary red goatskin for the Chapel Royal at St James's, spine gilt in compartments with crescent and flower devices, covers gilt with elaborate centrepieces (front and back) containing cipher of George III and text 'Chapel Royal, St James's', outer frames composed of twin fillets enclosing stylised roll, and decorative corner-pieces incorporating royal crown, all edges gilt, a few marks to boards, extremities rubbed but gilt bright and the whole with a very appealing, unrestored patina.
