Lithographic additional title within an elaborate hand-coloured border, 24 hand-coloured lithographic plates by W.H. Fitch after Hooker and Fitch. Contemporary half morocco over marbled boards, an excellent example.

Folio (47.5 x 29.5 cm), iv, 533, [iii] pp., Royal paper issue with hand coloured plates, title printed in red and black with hand-coloured pictorial vignette, engraved hand-coloured allegorical frontispiece, dedication leaf with hand-coloured headpiece, 74 (of 75) hand-coloured engraved plates (lacks plate 38) by H. Roberts, R. Benning, Darley & Edwards, the author, and others, mostly after drawings by the author, some light old damp-staining marks running through first third of book, generally a good clean example, contemporary russia, sometime rebacked with tan morocco, corners worn, some edge wear, covers scuffed.

  7. 11 volumes 4to., 527 fine hand-coloured lithograph or chromolithograph plates (with tissue guards) by John Nugent Fitch (one double-numbered folding plate in volume I), some with tinted backgrounds; chromolithograph plate (Cypripedium Charlesworthii) from another work inserted in volume X. Original brown fine diagonal-rib cloth, gilt lettered spines and front covers, spines and front covers with floriate panelling in blind & black (back covers stamped in blind), untrimmed, endpapers yellow coated or with a pale grey or brown floriate pattern. Bookseller's ticket of David Bryce & Son, Glasgow. Rear joint of volume I split at foot but sound, scattered foxing to letterpress, plates clean and fresh. A very good set.

(upper outer corner of one text leaf (for Veronica Montana. Mountain Speedwell, the seventh plate) in vol. II torn and repaired with text supplied in manuscript, some leaves very lightly browned, a few instances of offsetting). Nineteenth century brown half morocco gilt over red pebble-grained cloth sides.
