A fine visual record of Sintra, near Lisbon. A long-time royal sanctuary, the area's forested terrain is studded with pastel-coloured villas and palaces. The Moorish- and Manueline-style Sintra National Palace is distinguished by dramatic twin chimneys and elaborate tilework.

Now a UNESCO heritage site, Sintra remains largely unchanged since the publication of this book, and Burnett's lithographs of the flora and architecture of the region are as relevant as ever.
