Below, we’d like to share some interesting facts about the Fair, to inform your visit.

1. A historic venue

Founded in 1682 by Charles II and designed by Sir Christopher Wren, the Royal Hospital Chelsea was built as a home for 'veterans broken by age and war'.

Figure Court is the oldest part of the Royal Hospital Chelsea. The colonnade is all Wren's original work, with the benches and panelling dating back to 1688 and the Latin inscription is said to have been composed by Wren himself.

The Doric columns of the main portico, 32 feet high, support the Royal Hospital's water cistern which was originally filled from the River Thames.

When you visit the Fair, don’t forget to look out for the incredible architecture of the Royal Hospital buildings as you come and go!

2. Stunning views

The Masterpiece Terrace is our favourite spot for a drink at the fair, where you can enjoy stunning views of the Royal Hospital, with an abundance of natural light and an outdoor seating area. The Terrace offers a range of champagnes and wines, a perfect place for you to rest and recharge.

3. Le Caprice is back

The much-missed Le Caprice, which has been a fixture on the London dining scene for almost 40 years and beloved haunt of many celebrities, is returning to Masterpiece.

The restaurant will serve classics from the fresh and imaginative modern British and European repertoire for lunch and dinner.

4. Cycle friendly

Masterpiece is a short walk from Sloane Square, which visitors can easily get to by Tube or Rail (via London Victoria). However, we do believe that cycling is one of the best ways to enjoy the summer weather. The good news is that Masterpiece is a cycling-friendly art fair. They offer 45 bicycle racks close to the main fair entrance. Have a lovely ride!

5. Events

From talks on art appreciation and collecting to family art workshops, Masterpiece has organised a series of events with discipline experts and leading cultural institutions.
