Collection: Darwin & Friends

In celebration of Charles Darwin’s birthday on February 12th we present forty-two books connected with him, in chronological order. In addition to copies of most of his major works, such as early editions of The Voyage of the Beagle and a beautiful first issue of The Descent of Man in original cloth, they include influences like Malthus and Lyell, collaborators and correspondents such as Hooker, Wallace, and Huxley, and key works in the development of the ‘modern synthesis’ of genetics and Darwinian evolution, ending with the decoding of the human genome at the end of the 20th century. There are also a few surprises — the only  negative review of the Origin of which Darwin approved, an early  example of the radical political appropriation of evolutionary theory, and more.
