James Stephens (1880-1950) was an Irish writer, best remembered for his retellings of Irish myths and folklore. His most celebrated work is the 1920 collection 'Irish Fairy Tales'. He was good friends with fellow Irish author James Joyce.

This edition showcases Rackham's unique style, blending mystical elements of Irish tales with intricate line work and soft colour. The tales reflect the depth and richness of Irish mythology, bringing characters like Tuan mac Cairill and Fionn to life.

First trade edition; 8vo (215 x 175 mm); engraved title-page, 16 colour plates including frontispiece, with captioned tissue-guards; later half calf, paper boards, gilt spine with gilt red morocco lettering piece, a fine copy.
