The author's first novel. One of literature's best opening lines - 'Naylor was deaf again. Nothing serious, just a ball of wax in the ear'.

First edition, sole impression; 8vo; contents somewhat browned as often, numerous gatherings poorly opened with ragged edges and some marginal loss throughout; original wrappers printed in blue; wrappers a little tanned and lightly rubbed, back strip a little tanned. Very good.
