Interesting pamphlet defending the existence of the College of Calcutta during the debate around the renewal of the East-India Company Charter. The Charter of 1813 would end the Company's monopoly but keep provisions for improvement of literary and scientific knowledge, allocating 100,000 rupees a year for education in India including the College at Fort William.

Scarce, with only 3 UK institutional copies (BL, Manchester, RAC).

First edition; 8vo (20.5 x 13 cm); marbled wrappers, printed title label to upper wrapper, all edges red, a fine copy; vii, [1], (9)-112 pp.
