Amsterdam and New York, Aenigma books & prints and Kunst Editions, 2002

Number 55 of 76 copies signed by the contributors with 25 original photographs. Roberta Bayley's Punk was limited to 76 copies, with only 60 available for sale, because 1976 was the year of New York punk. It was the year Punk magazine was launched, the year the Ramones released their first album, the year Clem Burke joined Blondie, and the year Richard Hell formed the Voidoids. It includes gelatin silver prints of Bayley's photographs of the Ramones, Iggy Pop, Blondie, Edith Massey, David Johansen, the Heartbreakers, Richard Hell, Elvis Costello, Paula Yates, Talking Heads, Television, Sid Vicious, John Lydon, Joe Strummer, and The Damned; a copy of the 25th anniversary issue of Punk magazine vol.2 #0 Winter 2001; and a signed print of John Holmstrom's drawing of Joey Ramone that was used on the cover of the April 1976 issue of Punk. Each box is also decorated with two spreads from an original issue of the magazine.

In her introduction, Bayley writes: 'New York City, city of dreams. The place where everyone comes, seeking fortune and fame. Not me. I came to New York by accident, having run out of luck and money while living in London for two years. Someone gave me a one way plane ticket and I took it. I got t0 New York in April of 1974, when the city was at its supposed nadir: bankrupt, dirty and desolate. It looked great to me, and turned out to be the perfect breeding ground for something to happen, and it did: punk. In January of 1975 Terry Ork asked me to work the door of CBGBs for Television and later Hilly Kristal hired me on a regular basis. I began taking photographs of the bands and then I hooked up with John Holmstrom and Legs McNeil at Punk magazine. You can read all the lurid details in this book, in the words of some of the key people who created the thing that got called (and maybe was) punk.'

This copy of Punk belonged to Hilary Gerrard, Ringo Starr's manager for over thirty years and a director of the Beatles company Apple Corps.
