Allemagne.
Charles Baedeker, Coblentz 1846
The first was published in 1832 under the title " Voyage du Rhin de Mayence a Cologne." However this is considered to be the first true French Baedeker as much of the guide had been re-written. Baedeker had also introduced more town plans which include Cologne and Strasbourg.
This copy is bound in the attractive yellow pictorial bindings known as Biedermeier, the period 1815-1848 is often (in German-speaking countries) referred to as the Biedermeier period in art and especially with reference to a style of furniture. The architectural and landscape designs on these bindings always represent the area covered in the Baedeker. They are considered to be highly collectible.
First edition. pp. xxiv, 309, 8 plans and one general map in two parts at the rear; bound in the publisher's original yellow pictorial biedermeier boards, slightly bumped and worn at corners; overall an excellent copy.
