The first edition of Lecky's The King's Ships, a fine visual record of the Royal Navy from its earliest foundation to its height at the pinnacle of British maritime supremacy. Originally intended to be complete in six volumes, the first world war intervened and thus only three volumes appeared.

First edition, 3 vols [all published]; 4to (29.5 x 23.5 cm); richly illustrated with photogravure frontispieces and full-page colour plates; contemporary half roan, green cloth boards, gilt spine in compartments, top-edge gilt.
