The author was the artist on Colonel Sosnovsky's scientific expedition across Siberia to Lake Baikal and Mongolia in 1874-75. This was one of the first expeditions to traverse the entire Gobi Desert.
First edition in French, 8vo., iv, 563 pp., title printed in red and black, translated from the Russian by Aug. Kuscinski, portrait, wood-engraved plates and illustrations, some spotting, contemporary tan morocco-backed boards, corners worn, spine lightly faded and rubbed, a good copy.
