It was published to accompany a major retrospective exhibition at The Philadelphia Museum of Art (19 Feb – 16 Apr 1989), which travelled to LACMA, Los Angeles; Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington D.C.; Amon Carter Museum, Fort Worth; Colorado History Museum, Denver and other institutions.
