This is the second edition of Alexander Ross's Qur'an in English, translated by Ross from a French translation by André du Ryer published in 1647. This edition was printed in octavo following the first edition that was printed in the same year in quarto format and includes 'A needfull caveat or admonition, for them who desire to know what use may be made of, or if there be danger in reading the Alcoran' (p.406) by Ross at the end of the text.
First octavo edition of the first English Language edition, 8vo (165 x 110 mm); complete with the Table of Contents and the 'needful Caveat or admonition' by Ross at the end: [xx], 408, [xii] pp., title ruled within double borders, early auction label to upper pastedown, no signature O (as issued), eighteenth-century full leather, edges and spine ends repaired, rubbed at extremities.
