Samuel, Thomas & William Daniell
Thomas (1749-1840), his nephew William (1769-1837), and brother Samuel (1775-1811) Daniell had a profound influence on the artistic life of the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. In addition to oil paintings and watercolours, they produced some of the greatest volumes of hand-coloured aquatints of all time. Key works by William and Thomas include Oriental Scenery (1795-1808), Picturesque Voyage to India by the way of China (1810), and Voyage Round Great Britain (1814-1825). Samuel is famous for African Scenery (1804-1805), and Picturesque Illustrations of the Island of Ceylon (1808).
No collection of colour plate books of India could be considered complete without examples of their work.
