Alessandra Sanguinetti's On the Sixth Day, set in the Buenos Aires province Partido de Guido, explores the interdependent relationship between local farmers and the animals they raise for food. This setting offers an insight into Argentina's socio-cultural landscape, especially regarding class and the divide between rural and urban life.
'I can safely say the book begun when I was 9 years old at the farm where we spent our summers. I'd wander the corrals and fields, watching the various animals we had there, trying to get close, imagining how they saw things, how they saw me and longing to have some connection with them... Sixteen years later, in 1996, I went back with an unclear idea of photographing farm life, and a vague vision of color and animals, I slowly found myself lower and lower on my knees in front of many ordinary animals and ordinary acts, which become extraordinary when paid attention to.'
