Tuscon, Arizona, Nazraeli Press, 2004
'At the time, I had been sensing a gap, something like a torn muscle, between the photographs I was taking and the feelings I had about those photographs. It was a time when my sense of reality about taking photographs was quite tenuous. Knowing I was in this state, Tanno Kiyokazu, an editor at the magazine, suggested I try approaching photography from the direction of language, and he set aside seven pages of the magazine for me. Shortly after that, my essays and photographs began to appear monthly, under the title Memories of a Dog.'
