Illustrated by the Kyiv-born artist Konstantin Kozlovsky, Tsukor is an incredibly rare example of a Soviet 'production book' printed in Ukrainian. A Russian edition, 'Sakhar' came out simultaneously and is also scarce, but the Ukrainian version is exceptionally so, with no copies found in institutions worldwide.

The edition falls into a short period of 2 years, when publishing house 'Kultura' in Kyiv started to produce children's books with radical avant-garde illustrations. Tsukor follows the Soviet tradition of teaching children about manufacturing processes and industry through book illustration. Starting and ending the journey in a cooperative shop, the author takes the reader through the supply chain, from harvesting sugar beet to impressive factory machines. This genre of book aimed to develop the industrial outlook in children of the first Soviet generation.

First edition, small 8vo (19.5 x 14 cm); [12]pp. including covers, illustrations printed in four colours after Kozlovsky, traces of plastic removed from inner covers leaving them a little worn, staples replaced, otherwise a very good copy.
