Le Petit Tiranon, Versailles.

From 1898 until his death in 1927, Atget tirelessly documented what remained of Old Paris—its streets, monuments, interiors, and surrounding areas. Among the final works in this self-initiated effort to preserve the city's past was a series of photographs capturing landscapes, buildings, and sculptures in the parks of Saint-Cloud and Versailles.

One of the sites Atget photographed in this project was the Hameau de la Reine. Constructed in 1783 for Marie Antoinette, this picturesque, rustic hamlet is situated in the grounds of the Château de Versailles, near the Petit Trianon, in Yvelines, France. It served as a secluded retreat where the queen and her closest companions could meet privately and relax away from court life.
