First edition, the rare offprint of this early paper on the USSR's first computer, the BESM-1. Not in Hook & Norman's Origins of Cyberspace, and WorldCat locates only one copy, at the Centrum Wiskunde & Informatica in Amsterdam.Author Vladimir Melnikov, was a disciple of the great Soviet computer scientist Sergei Lebedev (1902-1974), and worked on the development of all six BESM models. The paper describes the architecture and functioning of the BESM in great detail, including illustrations from photographs and methods of checking its output.
16-page offprint; illustrations and diagrams within the text, contents fresh; original green wrappers printed in black, wire-stitched, wrappers very lightly rubbed, excellent condition.
