A parody of the much celebrated Man'yōshū (万葉集, literally "Collection of Ten Thousand Leaves"), probably the most famous anthology of Japanese poetry of all time., compiled sometime after 759 AD (Nara period). In the last two pictures the Nara period ladies -with long hair and thick highbrows attached to their hairline) are contrasted with their 18th century versions, and the poems parodied with parallels, puns etc.

8vo., a collection of 22 Tankas, illustrated throughout, on double leaves, sewing in Japanese style, in good condition. Volume 3 only of a larger collection.
