The present work is a wide-ranging record of the local history, flora, fauna and climate conditions from ancient times until the publication. It is illustrated by the most prominent artists of the time, including Zichy and Samokish who took part in other prestigious publications such as Nicholas II's Coronation album and Kutepov's Tsarskaya Okhota [Imperial Hunt]. The Tsar and his family are shown here on several occasions.
Large 4to (36 x 28.7 cm). Half-title in colour, heightened with gold and silver, title, XV, 414 pp., with 45 plates and 9 maps, incl. 6 in colour and double-page, numerous illustrations in text, mostly from photographs.
Original publisher's brown quarter-sheep over green cloth boards, upper cover lettered in gilt, flat spine decorated; a bit rubbed at extremities, one hinge starting. Kept in a modern case slipcase.
