[ABC on Toy Blocks].
Detskiy mir, Moskva, 1961
Children's development in the USSR, same as other spheres, followed the official strategy. Each approved toy had an educational purpose and favoured realistic designs and illustrations. Such sets of toy blocks were a popular tool for teaching young children to spell simple words. With the USSR being focused more on the quantity than on diversity, the designs printed on such cubes remained unchanged for decades - at least until 1980s.
The set offered here is a rare survival from early edition printed by the publisher “Detskiy Mir”, which operated in 1957 – 1963 before being renamed into “Malysh”. It specialised in publishing books and table games for young children.
Complete set of 16 paper toy blocks in original box.
