Edwin Arnold (1832-1904) was a well reputed journalist for the The Daily Telegraph, eventually becoming editor-in-chief, and was part of the conglomerate the sponsored H. M. Stanley to find the course of the Congo River. He was better known as a poet, his great work 'The Light of Asia' being printed and translated many times.
First edition; 8vo (23 x 15.5 cm); 42 photographic plates including frontispiece, further in-text illustrations, discreet contemporary ownership inscription to title, armorial bookplate to pastedown; publisher's original green gilt pictorial cloth, touch of spotting to edges, a fine bright copy; x, 535, 24 (ads.) pp.
