presentation copy inscribed by Rupert Buxton's mother

An inscribed presentation copy of this privately published posthumous collection of poems by Rupert Buxton (1900-1921), with a memoir of his life by his friend the historian Arthur Bryant (1899-1985), who knew Buxton from their days at Harrow School.

Our copy is inscribed by Buxton's mother to his cousin 'Christian in memory of Rupert from Aunt Annie [Lady Anna Louisa Matilda Buxton, née O'Rorke], Dec. 1926'.

Buxton tragically drowned with his close-friend Michael Llewelyn Davies (1900-1921), the foster son of J.M. Barrie and one of the original inspirations for Peter Pan and the 'Lost Boys', whilst swimming near Oxford in 1921.

First edition, inscribed presentation copy; 8vo (19.5 x 15 cm); inscribed in pen to front free endpaper, photographic portrait frontispiece, occasional spotting; publisher's blue cloth, upper-cover lettered in gilt within double-rule border, spine and rear cover slightly faded, very good; 63, [1]pp.
