Austin accompanied the British military force sent to quell a mutiny of native troops in Uganda in 1897. The bulk of the narrative describes the terrain of the region and the military campaign. Travelling through some of the richest game lands in East Africa there are also accounts of lion and elephant hunting.

First edition; 8vo (22 x 15 cm); illustrated with 16 photographic plates and a folding map, bookbinders ticket to front pastedown; contemporary half green calf, green buckram boards, spine in six compartments with gilt red morocco lettering piece, all edges speckled red, spine a little faded, a near fine copy; xvi, 314 pp.
