Basil Lubbock was a British historian, sailor and soldier. He had served in the Boer war and was a great adventurer who took part in the Klondike Gold Rush. He had been yachting since 1905 and was passionately interested in ships, yachts, clippers and the sea generally. Written late in Lubbock's life, 'The Opium Clippers' covers the adventures and life of these remarkable small clippers who took part in the opium trade.

It is rare to find this book with the dust-jacket intact as it is on very fragile paper. The dust-jacket mirrors the lavish binding.

First edition; 8vo (26 x 20 cm); numerous illustrations, seven plans, publisher's bookmark, ink inscription on title page from previous owner, pictorial map endpapers; publisher's lavishly gilt decorated purple cloth, lettered in white on spine and upper board, original dust-jacket, worn at extremities (missing one corner on front panel); a very good copy; xiv, 392pp.
