The first edition or Russell's (1872-1970) treatise on the philosophy of language, signed by him in pen to the front free endpaper. The book represents the culmination of a series of lectures Russell gave on 'Language and Fact' at the University of Oxford in 1938, which in turn formed the basis for seminar courses delivered by Russell at the University of Chicago and UCLA over the subsequent two-years prior to publication.
The ownership inscription for an individual attached to the University of Sydney, and the old bookseller's ticket for Dymock's Book Arcade indicate the book was probably signed by Russell whilst on his two-month lecture tour in Australia in 1950.
