Bigandet (1813-1894), French Catholic Missionary and Buddhist Scholar, spent over fifty years in Burma. Based on Burmese sources and printed in Rangoon, the work provided a valuable source of information at a time when Buddhism was little known in the West. First published in 1858, this second edition is considerably enlarged.

Second edition, 8vo, [iv], xi, 538 pp., contemporary half calf gilt, rubbed, a very good copy.
