The plates though hand-coloured lithographs give the appearance of watercolours. They are featured in either clusters or bouquets. Species represented include Azalea, Geranium, Roses, Jasmine; Camellia and Begonia; Tulips, ; Larkspur and Japan Lily and Asters amongst others.

Mrs Clarissa Munger Badger (1806-1889) came from a family of artists in Connecticut. She focused on botanical art and became very popular in the late nineteenth century. The poems in this volume are by Badger herself and by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Felicia Hemans, and others.

First edition. Folio (44 x 33 cm), hand-coloured frontispiece, 15 hand-coloured lithographed plates, bookplate, recent decorated endpapers, light toning to some pages, all edges gilt; rebacked prseerving publisher's green morocco boards, ornately decorated in gilt with floral motifs and gilt lettered on upper board; a very good copy.
