First edition of this sweeping work covering the history of Egypt and British involvement from 1876 to 1907, written by one of the key British protagonists. Evelyn Baring, 1st Earl of Cromer (1841-1917) was the consul-general in Egypt from 1883 to 1907 during the British occupation, prompted by the Urabi revolt. Baring's position gave him, and by extension Britain, de facto control over Egypt's finances and precipitated the colonisation of Egypt which lasted until 1952.
