Originally published in 1901, The Life of the Bee is a poetic book in which Maeterlinck outlines his philosophical view of the human condition. Reissued 10 years later with Detmold's exquisite illustrations, it introduced the work to a much wider readership.

Detmold; publisher's cream gilt boards after a design by Detmold, edges uncut, as published, contemporary ink gift presentation to balnk verso of upper front free endpaper, spine darkened (as usual) some surface soiling, mostly to rear, spine ends and corners light bumped, otherwise very good and internally fine.
