One of Greene's scarcest novels, published in the UK a month after its US release in June 1936. Filmed in 1942 by Frank Tuttle as 'This Gun For Hire', starring Alan Ladd and Veronica Lake.

First UK edition; 8vo (18.5 x 12.5 cm); minor offsetting to endpapers, occasional light spotting throughout, more evident to pp194-5 and pp214-5 though not affecting legibility of text, minor marginal finger soiling throughout, more evident to p46 and p92, otherwise very good internal condition; modern half green morocco over green cloth boards by Bayntun Riviere, spine in 6 compartments, lettered in gilt, top edge gilt, cockerel endpapers, very light signs of wear to extremities, minor fading to spine, otherwise near-fine condition; [vi], 261pp, [1]pp.
