A very good copy of Harry Mathews' second novel, portions of which were first published in The Paris Review, Mother, and Art & Literature. Mathews was an American expat from New York who lived and wrote in Paris as well as the first American member of the French literary society, Oulipo.

Tlooth was the first book published by 'Paris Review Editions,' a joint venture of the New York publisher, Doubleday & Company, and the literary quarterly, The Paris Review. At the time, Mathews was in a relationship with an editor at the Review, Maxine Groffsky. This edition was published seven years before their headquarters were moved from Paris to New York City.

First edition; brown endpapers with publisher's device, device also on title-page, sparse in-text illustrations; deckled fore-edge, publisher's tan and black boards, device to upper cover, spine lettered in gilt, uncut pictorial dustjacket lettered in black and white (lightly rubbed on extremities); clean and very good copy; 191, [i]p.
