Tlooth was the first book published by 'Paris Review Editions,' a joint venture of the New York publisher, Doubleday & Company, and the literary quarterly, The Paris Review. At the time, Mathews was in a relationship with an editor at the Review, Maxine Groffsky. This edition was published seven years before their headquarters were moved from Paris to New York City.
First edition; brown endpapers with publisher's device, device also on title-page, sparse in-text illustrations; deckled fore-edge, publisher's tan and black boards, device to upper cover, spine lettered in gilt, uncut pictorial dustjacket lettered in black and white (lightly rubbed on extremities); clean and very good copy; 191, [i]p.
