View of the State of Europe during the Middle Ages was first published in 1818, shortly after Hallam had come into his inheritance, allowing him to devote the remainder of his life to study. This the eleventh edition was the last to be published during the author's lifetime.
Eleventh edition; 3 vols; 8vo (18 x 12.5 cm); contemporary straight-grained calf, covers ruled in blind and gilt, gilt spine in 6 compartments, contrasting red and brown morocco lettering-pieces, marbled edges, extremities a little rubbed, occasional minor spotting, very good; xiv, 506; v, [1], 429, [1]; iv, 515, [1]pp.
