Scarce account by a Polishman (actual name Chodasiewicz) who was forced to join the Russian army before changing his allegiance to the allies. He was able to supply valuable information about the Russian forces.
"Captain Hodasevich was only nine years of age when, by request, which in the Russian meaning of the word signifies the same as by order, he was sent to the Military Academy in St. Petersburg, and educated for the profession of arms" (The preface).
First edition, 8vo (21 x 14 cm), xii, 252 pp., 3 folding maps, 32 pp. publisher's catalogue, original fine ribbed green cloth gilt, spine faded, neat repairs to extremities, occasional light spotting and soiling, a good example.
