Fawckner and his crew were taken prisoner when their schooner ran aground at Mongyee. Their cargo, intended for the purchase of palmoil and ivory from the local tribes, was looted. The book includes a description of Giovanni Battista Belzoni's grave at Gatto, Captain Fawckner having buried one of his deceased crew in a nearby plot.
