Illustrated with engraved plates. An interesting, unrecorded variant issue of this scarce Glasgow edition of Milton's (1608-1674) epic poem Paradise Lost, 'one of the greatest works of human imagination' retelling in blank-verse the story of the Fall of Man (ODNB).
Our copy with the engraved portrait frontispiece noted in ESTC N34469 (5 institutional copies), but with the additional 12 plates and 53-page index only recorded for the earlier Urie editions. Some of the plates have been printed over what appears to be old paper stock from the earlier Urie editions.
