Captain Richard Campbell (1933-2023) was a hydrographer in the Navy who served on the Dalrymple during the Suez Crisis in 1956, the Endurance (1969-71) surveying the Antarctic, the Beagle (1971-72) surveying islands in the Indian Ocean, and captained the survey vessel Hydra which was converted into a hospital ship during the Falklands War, for which he was awarded an OBE.
Limited edition, number 405 of 550 copies; 4to (36 x 23 cm); illustrated throughout with wood-blocks by Dorothea Braby, previous owner's bookplate to pastedown; original half levant morocco by Sangorski and Sutcliffe, cloth boards with elaborate gilt-stamped motif to upper board, spine lettered in gilt, top edge gilt, touch of rubbing to corners, a near-fine copy; 266pp.
