The recipient John La Rose was a political and cultural activist, poet, writer, publisher, founder of New Beacon Books in 1966, the first specialist Caribbean publishing company in Britain, and subsequently Chairman of the George Padmore Institute.
First US edition, first impression, inscribed by the author; 8vo; small stain to top corner of first few leaves (not affecting text), else unmarked internally; publisher's green cloth, titles to spine and upper cover in silver, green topstain somewhat faded, blue endpapers, with the unclipped pictorial dustjacket, spine and extremities slightly toned, minor edge-wear, else very good.
